With many new members joining the Ashburton branch of the Red Cross Society at yesterday’s classes, the roll number has iiow been taken above.the ICO' mark, and the initial enthusiasm of members augurs well for the success of the organisation in training women for emergency work. The St. John Ambulance Association and the recently formed branch of the Society’ have combined to conduct the classes, which arc part of the Domin-ion-wide campaign to prepare the people to meet an emergency such as might arise from the entiy of the Empire into a war. Twenty members of the classes have already indicated that at the end of the course of instruction they intend to sit for the St. John Ambulance certificate examination tor home-nurs-ing and first aid.
