BOXING.
PARRIS AT TOP OF FORM.
DOWN ADMITTED TO HOSPITAL.
DUNEDIN, July 2
Fighting at the top of his form, Billy Parris scored a convincing victory over Barney Down on Saturday night, giving him one of the severest drubbings a boxer has ever received in a Dunedin ring. With the possible exception of the first, Parris easily won every round, and at the end of the eighth round [Down was so far gone that it is doubtful whether the fight should have been allowed to continue. As soon as the gong went for the ninth Parris connected' with a Jett to the body and right to the head. Then he drove a terrific left to the clun,
sending Down to the canvas. His head struck heavily, and although he gamely attempted to rise, thei referee had no alternative but to stop the fight. Down collapsed on the way to his corner, and was subsequently admitted to hospital suffering from concussion.
