COMPETITIONS CONTINUED.

ANOTHER WIN FOR LOWCLIFFE

By its defeat of Hinds on Saturday afternoon, Loweliffe retains the premier position in the senior grade ot the Ashburton Women's Hockey Association’s competitions. Loweliffe has been consistent in all its matches, and if its present form is maintained in the remaining three matches, should gain the championship. The match between Tinwald and Wakanui was an excellent one and sparkling play was witnessed in this fixture.

SENIOR GRADE

METHVEN v. RAKAIA

Methven beat Rakaia by seven goals to nil in a rather one-sided match at Methven. F. Young, who shot four of Moth veil’s goals, was particularly sound in the centre-forward position, and N. Ayers, responsible for two more goals, also played well. J. Lawson scored Methven,’s final goal. F. Rapley played a good game for Rakaia. The referee was Mr G. .Toll ns.

LOWCLIFFE v. HINDS

A match which created great interest at. Loweliffe was Ilia I between Loweliffe and Hinds, won by the home side by two goals to nil. Play.generally was very bright and was watched by a large number of spectators. Loweliffe showed good combination ana the backs, P. Hawke and .T. Hansen, played a good defensive game. The Hinds forwards lacked finish in the circle. Among the backs, E. Proctor (goalkeeper) saved many hot shots, and M. Watson, at right back, took her full

share of defensive play. Goals Avere shot by E. Anderson and J. Hawke. Messrs C. Bishop and W. T. Corbett Avere the referees.

TINWALD v. WAKANUI. One of the best games played this season was that between Tinwald and Wakanui. Under ideal conditions all players' excelled themsolYes, the Tinwaid team winning by three goals to one. The forward line played exceptionally Avell, the halves and backs breaking up the opponents combination. The defence of the Wakanui team broke doAvn through lack of combination. Individual players of Wakanui should learn combination, and that undercutting is dangerous, and should he stopped. M. Wilson, goal-keeper for Wakanui, played an outstanding game, and is to he congratulated on her style of play. The scorers were: .S. Chibnali, M. Donaldson and F. Gudsell for Tinwald, and D. Fowke for Wakanui. The referee ' was Mr ¥f, M. Gabites.

JUNIOR GRADE

For juniors, the players in the Wakanui v. Lowcliffe match at Loavcliffe showed good form, some being very promising. The Wakanui team, which won by three goals to tAvo, had the benefit of a. forward line which used exeellet combination. Mary Hydes (2) and Mavis Amos were the scorers for the winning side, and Jit. Dutton and B. Hawke shot goals tor LoAveliffe. Messrs Bishop antd Corbett'wore the referees.

A win by four goals to nil Avas recorded against Hinds A at Rakaia. D. Johnstone shot all four goals. The referee was Mr Iv. G. Fowke. Methven beat Technical School by default.
