RUMOURED INCREASE IN LEVY
MB, SAVAGE DENIES REPORT
(Per Press Association). / WELLINGTON, This Day. A widespread rumour that thei Government is contemplating to increase the social security tax from Is to. 2s in the pound was referred to the Prime Minister to-doy for comment after a Cabinet meeting. “It is the first I have heard of it/ said Mr Savage. “It certainly has never been discussed in this room.” Asked to comment on the report that the British Medical Association had changed its attitude regarding maternity benefits, the Minister oi Health (the Hon. P. Fraser) said he had no advice of any change in the position.
