METHVEN LIBRARY.
DECISSONS OF THE COMMITTEE. The monthly meeting of the Methveil Public Library committee was presided over by Mr A. If. Gourley. Others present were Miessrs R. F. Renai and W. J. Owen and Mcsdames M. Stone, L. Burrows, H. G. Ayers, and J. Kilworth. It was reported that collections for the month had been good. TlUe number of subscribers showed a slight increase. Over 100 books purchased from a private library had been placed on the shelves. A further supply was selected and these will be put into circulation at an early date. These, together with a number of new boons and those from the Government Library Service will give subscribers <t good selection of fresh reading matter. It was agreed to endeavour to increase the membership. A letter was received from ‘Mr A. N. Grigg, M.P., enclosing a reply received in connection with the. application to the Government for assistance in repairing the library buildings. This stated that there was no fund available for this purpose and pointed out that the*upkeep of the buildings was entirely a matter for the residents or the governing body of the district. As there were many books on the shelves in a delapidated condition and others not wanted by subscribers it was decided to dispose of these to the paper mills. It was also agreed to approach subscribers, business people and other residents for gifts of similar tinwanted papers and books, the disposal of which would assist tl:e funds of the library. Advice was /received that the travelling library representative would visit Methven with a. fresh supply of hooks' on April 11 and it was decided to hold the’ next monthly meeting on that date.
