Another step toward the amalgamation of the Ashburton High School and the Ashburton Technical High _ School has been taken by the Education Department, this being the opening of negotiations Tor the purchase of an area of 20 acres of the site known as the Racecourse Road block which was inspected, with others, by officials of the Department some months ago. In a letter received this morning by Dr. G. I. Atiller (chairman of the High School Board, who presided at the meeting of the two Boards some time ago) from the Minister for Education (the Hon. P. Fraser), it is stated that the Minister had approved of the purchase of the area and authority had been given for the necessary steps to be taken.
