The warship Sussex radioed to the Admiralty that in response to an S O S, she went to the assistance of the freight steamer Stanhope, which was held up by an armed Spanish merchant ship outside territorial waters. She freed the Stanhope, which was on route to Gibraltar. A Barcelona message states that the Stangate, which is a sister-sliip to the Stanhope, is being taken to Palma.
