Mr Robert Houston, of Cox Street, will leave on the midnight train tomorrow for Bluff to connect with the Maunganui for Melbourne. Mr Houston expects to bo away for over two months.
The resignation of Mr V. Bennett, of Methven, after 27 years’ service-was accepted by the Ashburton County Council yesterday afternoon and appreciation of his services to the County as water race ranger was expressed.
Mr George Argyle, of Ashburton, is vfsiting Wellington as guest conductor to the Wellingtono City Salvation Army Band. Inis evening he will conduct the band at 2ZB. The selection, “Excerpts from the Great Masters,.’ which has been lent to the Wellington band by the Ashburton Salvation Army Band for the occasion, will be heard from the station at 9 p.m.
The County Chairman (Mr H. J. Crotliers), the County Engineer (Mr H. A. Vezey), and Mr A. N. Grigg, M.P., were yesterday appointed to interview the Minister for Public Works (the Hon. R. Semple) m Christchurch on Tuesday on the question of damage to County roads by Public Works Department’s lorries.
