ESSAY COMPETITION.
ASHBURTON AGRICULTURAL SHOW. THE AWARDS ANNOUNCED. The awards in the essay competition in connection with the Ashburton Agricultural and Pastoral Association’s recent show are announced. They are: Senior Section. Rose Donley (High School) 1 L. Atkinson (High School) 2 E. Moore (High School) 3 Junior Section. I Yolanda F. Kennedy (Borough) ... 1 Keith C. Kelly (Borough) 2 Pamela C‘. Crawford (Borough) 3 Commenting on the essays, the judge expresses pleasure at the number of entries—3l in the senior section and nine in the junior. Equally gratifying is the marked improvement in quality, most of the essays this year being up to prize-winning standard in recent competitions. In the senior division the subject was treated generally in a manner that revealed thoughtful consideration on a broader basis than has been the case hitherto.
