CHINA’S STRENGTH
THE BASE OF HER RESISTANCE. RESOURCES IN THE HINTERLAND NATION-WIDE WARFARE PLAN. (United Press Association—-Copyright.) (Received This Day, 1.30 p.m.) LONDON, November 1.
A message from Chungking states that Marshal Chiang Kai-Shek, in a manifesto to the nation, said that China’s main base of resistance lay in the vast hinterland. The defence .of Hankow and Wuchang was deliberately prolonged in order to allow the development of inland resources and communications. This was completed, therefore the plan for nation-wide warfare, instead of lighting at particular points, could be carried out.
“Irrespective of the changes in the international situation, Japan must collapse from exhaustion. China’s supplies are adequate, and there is no danger that her communications will be cut,” said the Marshal.
