THEFT ADMITTED.
THREE CHARGES PREFERRED. ACCUSED SENT TO GAOL. Pleading guilty to three charges of theft at Ashburton yesterday, John Arthur Crawford, of Dunedin, was this morning sentenced to one month’s hard labour on each charge, the sentences to be cumulative. He was brought before Air E. C. Bathurst, J.P., and Air W. H. Amos, J.P., in the Ashbujrton ATagistrate’s Court this morning and, was charged that he stole an overcoat valued at £1 ss, the property of R . G. (Dabourn; a. leather overcoat, valued at £2 19s 6d, the property of an unknown person ; two rugs and a pair of gauntlet gloves, valued at £7 ss, the property of R. G. Da-bourn. • It was stated that accused was seen to take some of the articles from a ,motor-ca<r and to place them among long /grass. A constable was informed and kept watch on the spot, arresting accused when he went to collect the goods.
