CANDIDATES’ SPEECHES. MID-CANTERBURY SEAT. MR HERRING’S CAMPAIGN. Mr H. E. Herring, Labour candidate for Mid-Canterbury, addressed about 100 electors in the Lauristnn Hall last evening. Mr Herring spent considerable time on the Government relationship to the wheat industry and taxation proposals, and also touched on main points of legislation. The one question asked, after being answered, drew applause.

A vote of thanks for his address, moved by Mr T. Greenaway and seconded by Mr 'L. C. Gorman, was carried unanimously on a show of hands. Mr Colin Eyfo presided. Mr Herring addressed an audience of 80 in the Lyndlmrst Hall last evening, and liis speech was frequently applauded. Only one question was asked. Air L. L. Aitken, moving a motion of thanks for the address, spoke at length on Mr Herring’s valuable services to the district. The seconder was Mr T. 0. Gray, and the motion was carried by acclamation. Mr G. A. Franks presided. . ' MR GRIGG AT ALLENTON. There was an attendance of between 140 and 150 people at Mr Grigg’s meeting at Allenton, where he spoke on similar lines to his addresses at other centres. Mr W. Acton was iq the chair. Mr Grigg answered a number of questions at the close' of his address and on the motion of Messrs H. G. Ferrier and D. H. Moore was accorded a vote of thanks. THE NATIONAL PARTY. TINWALD WOMENS SECTION. «*- There was an attendance of 50 at the meeting of the women’s section of the Tinwald branch of the National Party yesterday. The president (Mrs J. H. Grigg) presided. t . Airs Grigg introduced the speaker, Airs J. Acland, who was presented with a spray of flowers. After an attentive hearing the speaker, on the motion of Mrs C. Anderson, was accorded* a. hearty vote of thanks. MEETING AT MAYFIELD.

Alaiiv visitors from surrounding districts were present at a well-attended meeting of ladies at Mayfield yesterday! when Mrs AV. McKay (organiser for the women’s sections of the National Party in Canterbury) gave an address on the aims and objects of the National Party. The president of the Mayfield branch (Airs D. J. Morrow) presided, and an enthusiastic vote of thanks was accorded the speaker on the motion of Airs R. Austin. The hostesses were Mesdames Rich and A. Afurdoeh. THE TEMUKA ELECTORATE. TWO CANDIDATES NOMINATED. i t The following nominations of candidates 1 for the.Tenmka Electorate have been received by the Returning Officer (Air L. W. Parrant): — Air Thomas David Burnett (National). Nominated by Alessrs J. S. AlcBride, J. Macaulay, J. T. Smart, R. Oakley, J. AI. Little, J. L. Stone-Wigg, Airs Z. Oliver. Air James Arnold Kearton (Labour). Nominated by Alessrs T. T. Sheen, W. H. Stand and, R. Henderson, J. Campbell, J. H. Papworth, A. AV. Buzan, and R. Yates.

MR BURNETT AT EIFFELTON. One hundred residents of the surrounding districts gathered in the Eiffelton School last evening, when Mr T. D. Burnett, on arrival, was greeted with applause. Mr S. P. Taylor presided. Mr Burnett gave a most interesting address, emphasising the rising costs and the heavy taxation levied on the farming community. He strongly advocated private enterprise in contrast to the Socialistic aims of the present Government. Mr Burnett, who was given an attentive hearing, at the conclusion of his address answered several questions. Mr F. P. Cookson moved a vote of thanks, and expressed the district’s confidence in their member. Mr H. C. Patterson seconded the motion, which was carried by acclamation. Before leaving, Mr Burnett' inf imated his pleasure at the goodwill and friendly atmosphere displayed hv all present. NATIONAL PARTY AT EALING. An enthusiastic gathering of 06 electors greeted tin* National candidate, Mr T. 1). Burnett, in the Ealing Hall on Monday evening. Mr H. C. B. Witliell occupied the chair. The speaker was given a most attentive heaving. A motion of thanks and confidence moved by Mr J. C. Guinness and seconded by Mr E. D. Templer, was carried unanimously.
