THEATRE EMPLOYEES.
DEADLOCK OVER AGREEMENT. (Per Press Association.) WELLINGTON, This Day. A warning that it was not much use for the dispute proceeding if one of the assessors refused to sign documents when, an agreement had been reached, was given by the Conciliation Commissioner (Mr Reardon) during an argument in the front of the house theatres case. It arose from Mr A. T. Quealy (workers’ assessor) of Auckland, dissenting from the agreements reached bv other assessors, taking bis stand on the argument, that better conditions obtained in the proposed Auckland award or were being sought. The Commissioner said that Auckland must be prepared to make certain sacrifices where their conditions did not apply in the other four districts concerned. The Union assessors, with the exception of Mr Quealy, agreed to the deletion of boxing and wrestling associations. For the employers, Mr Mount-joy stated that they desired only an award to cover the industry. There would bo no difficulty in obtaining a separate award for sports bodies. Mr A. Tongue (workers’ assessor, of Christchurch) said that boxing and wrestling had been agreed to at previous hearings. Mr Mountjoy replied that the citing of additional bodies such as racing clubs had complicated the position.
