ELECTION MEETINGS.

THE MID-CANTERBURY SEAT MR HERRING AT RAKAIA. Mr H. E. Herring addressed about 300 persons in the Rakaia Hall last evening, speaking at length on the Social Security proposals and the wheat-growing industry. The speaker had a splendid masting and at the conclusion a hearty vote of thanks moved by Mr E. f. Me Anility was carried by aeclam ttion. MR A. N. GRIGG S CAMPAIGN. Mr A. N. Grigg, National candidate for Mid-Canterbury, addressed a wellattended meeting at the Hampstead Hall last evening, and dealt fully with the Nationalist programme. The candidate received a good reception and atfthe conclusion of his address satisfactorily answered a number of questions. On the motion of Mr R. H. Loy a. hearty vote of thanks was accorded to Mr Grigg. At Doyieston and Lakeside. More than ICO electors were present at the Dovleston Hall on Monday evening to hear Mr Grigg. Mr G. Bray presided, and the candidate received an excellent hearing. On the motion of Mr H. T. Fussell, seconded by Mr W. J. Doyle, a vote of thanks and confidence to Mr Grigg was carried unanimously, with applause. The presentation of a posy of spring flowers to Mrs Grigg was made by Mr F. A. Wagner from the women of the district. The chairman invited all present to meet Mr and Mrs Grigg after the meeting at. supper, provided by the women, of the district. Mr Grigg gave an address at the Lakeside Hall before going to Doyleston. There was an attendance of about 80. Mr H: D. Marshall presided. The address was listened to attentively, and at the conclusion a vote of thanks, moved by Mr Gf. L. Barnett, was carried with enthusiasm. NATIONAL PARTY SOCIAL AT RAKAIA. The Rakaia women’s branch of the National Party held a social evening recently, when a good number of supporters were present. Games and dart-throwing were held. Mr C. Davison won a prize given by Miss Harrison. Mr and Mrs R. A. Oakley, Mrs Robinson, and Miss S. Lambie gave musical items. Mr L. 0. Oakley (president of the Rakaia branch of the Party) thanked the women’s branch for its effort.
