THE WEATHER.

TEN DEGREES FROST TO-DAY. A frost of 10 degrees was experienced in Ashburton this morning, the sharpest so far this year. It was nippy yesterday morning, also, when seven degrees of frost were registered. Fine sunny days followed the chilly mornings, however, and the settled weather that has been enjoyed in Ashburton for over a. fortnight continued. The maximum temperature on Saturday was 57.1 degrees, and yesterday 58.8 degrees. The minimum for the two days respectively were 30 degrees and 29.5 degrees. Light north-easterly wands prevailed. The barometer stood at 30.26 inches yesterday morning, and was steady at 30.21 inches this morning.

The Government Meteorologist, at noon to-day, issued the following statement regarding the weather :

General inference: The anti-cyclone which has been moving slowly eastward across the Dominion has intensified and the centre is now east of the North Island. A depression has reached Eastern Australia, but it is very shallow and pressure still high there.

The forecast for the east coast of the South Island from Blenheim to Oamaru is as follows:—

Light to moderate winds with northerlies prevailing and freshening somewhat. Weather fair to fine. Temperatures mild. Seas slight to moderate.
