SALES MANAGER’S LAPSE. GIVEN A FURTHER CHANCE. (Per Press Association.) CHRISTCHURCH, This Day, “It was only done in a spirit of alcoholic optimism,” submitted counsel ivho appeared for Arthur Julius Creedon, a sales manager, charged jn the Magistrate’s Court this morning -with assuming the designation of' a member of the Police Force. Detective-Sergt T. E. Holmes said that Creedon was in an hotel on February 11 and struck up acquaintance with a man named Murfitt, later asking him to come to-a party. Murfitt borrowed 6s from Creedon, and on going out of the hotel they were met by another man with a car. They both entered the car and drove to a petrol station, where Creedon purchased a gallon of petrol. They then went to a club and Creedon and the other, man left Murfitt sitting in the car. When they came out Murfitt was missing and Creedon drove to Murfitt’s home, where he told Murfitt’s mother he was a police officer, and said that if she did not pay 10s as ear hire he would be forced to issue a warrant for her son’s arrest. Both Mrs Murfitt and her daughter, were under the impression that Creedon was a police officer. “I will give you a further chance,” said the Magistrate (Mr Levvey) in convicting Creedon and ordering him to come up for sentence within 12 months if called upon.
