TORTURE BY POLICE.
INDIAN ACQUITTED OF MURDER.
KILLING OF HIS TORMENTOR
(United Press Association —Copyright.) LONDON, January 25.
The Rev. R. W. Sorenson (Labour, West Layton) will raise in the House of Commons the question of a secret inquiry which is being conducted at Lahore into the acquittal by the High Court of a niglitwatchnian named Kiroo for the murder of a policeman, who is alleged to have tortured him for six hours in order to extort a confession.
The torture occurred under the eyes of children in the married men’s quarters at the barracks. The pipe-major of the Argyll and Sutherland Highlanders protested to his superior officers. Kiroo seized the weapon with which he was being beaten and killed his tormentor. Kiroo was sentenced to life transportation, but was acquitted, the Chief Justice (Sir Douglas Young) declaring that Kiroo was justified. He added that lie was satisfied that the torture, which was a disgrace to the police force, was carried out.
