CURIOUS LAWSUIT.

PRINCE’S PANTOMIME.

ALLEGED PLAGIARISM. PARIS, January 8. Prince Yacoub Adol Mar, a cousin of the deposed Emperor of Abyssinia, has brought a curious copyright suit. He alleges that lie spent a decade collecting historical and legendary material about the Queen of Sheba. He worked at the task until Abyssinia was occupied hj the Italians, when lie went to Paris and embodied his researches in a novel.

From this ho extracted a pantomime which lie hoped would be performed at the Winter Circus.

Difficulties of staging cropped up. No horse could be found to take the jump in a thrilling abduction scene and the details of a shipwreck were unsatisfactorily realised. Later, the Prince heard that a work entitled “Balkis, Queen of Sheba,” had been registered and produced at the Winter Circus. This, he alleged, is a plagiarism of his own pantomime. The Court’s first decision was that both parties and their counsel should be ordered to attend the circus and compare in detail the performance with the Prince’s text.
