SHRAPNEL PROVES FATAL.

MAN WOUNDED IN FRANCE

LONDON, January 6

The verdict at an inquest the death of a war veteran on New Year’s Eve was that the man “died as a result of a shrapnel wound received in France in 1916.” . The victim was Harry Pierce, aged 42, a carpenter, of Battersea. Doctors gave evidence that a piece of shrapnel the size of a man’s little finger was found in Pierce’s lung. Death was due to blood poisoning.
