THE WEATHER.
CLOUDY AND OVERCAST. Conditions were dull and bleak in Ashburton this morning, with an overcast sky and a south-west wind blowing strongly at times. Four points of rain were recorded in the last 24 hours. The maximum temperature yesterday was 73 degrees, and the inside minimum last night 43.8 degrees. The barometer at 9 o’clock this morning had fallen to 29.45 inches, compared with 29.58 inches yesterday morning. TO-DAY'S FORECAST. (Per Press Association.) WELLINGTUN, This Day. The Government Meteorologist, at noon to-day, issued the following statement regarding the weather:— General inference: The depressions reported yesterday are now located east of the Dominion, and an anti-cyclone is advancing across the Tasman Sea. The forecast for the east coast of the South Island from Blenheim to Oamaru is as follows : N Moderate to strong south-westerly winds, reaching gale force in exposed positions. Weather cold and squally, with heavy showers and in places hail, but conditions moderating to-morrow. Seas rough to high.
