Mr and Mrs W. Robinson and Miss Nancy Robinson, of Chertsey, have returned from a tour of Great Britain.

Mr J. Moore was the speaker at the weekly luncheon of the Ashburton Rotary Club to-day. His subject was “Primary Conditions in Australia.”

Mr L. W. Blair, a member of the clerical staff of the Ashburton railway station, has been transferred to Christchurch, for which he will leave next week.

Mr C. Ward, Postmaster at Ashburton, resumed his diities to-day, after his absence on annual leave. Mr A. W. Swap, of the Postal Department relieving staff, relieved in Ashburton while he was away. ,

Miss J. R. Barr, M.A., principal of the Timaru Girls’ High School for the last 14 years has tendered her resignation to take effect at the commencement of the second term next year.

A motion of sympathy with the relatives of Mr W. H. Robinson, was carried in silence at the meeting of the Ashburton East School Committee on Monday evening. Tributes were paid to Mr Robinson’s work for the school during the many years he was a member of the committee, by the chairman (Mr W. S. Kerr) and Messrs E. H. Childs and J. Cook.
