SISTERS OF BARON.
RANK GRANTED BY KING.
OFFICIAL NOTIFICATION
LONDON, October 6. The privileges of a baron’s daughters have been conferred upon the sisters of Lord Gifford, who was well-known in Sydney as Commander Charles Gifford (“Giff”). He succeeded to the barony last January. His father, Maurice, who would have succeeded, had died. To-night the London Gazette announces: “The King has ordered that Mrs Diana Frederica Price and Miss Joan Gifford, sisters of Lord Gifford, shall henceforth have the title, rank, place, pre-eminence and precedence of a baron’s daughters.” The Gazette adds that the two ladies would have held these titles if their father had survived Edgar Berkeley Gifford, Baron Gifford, and had thereby succeeded to the title and dignity of Baron Gifford.
