111,000 DEATHS IN 1936

CHICAGO, February 2

The Chicago National Safety Council has issued complete figures showing that, in 1936, the deaths as the result of motor accidents in the United States were the highest ever recorded —38,500, compared with 37,000 deaths in 1935. Tornadoes, floods, excessive heat, and increased employment helped to bring the total deaths from all accidents to 111,000, which is also the highest number ever recorded. Accidents permanently disabled 400,000 people, and temporarily disabled 10,300,000.
