OFFICIAL WELCOME.

TO PASTOR MURRAY SAVAGE. CHURCH OF CHRIST FUNCTION. Though the weather was inclement, there was a very good attendance at the Church of Christ social hall last evening, the occasion being an official welcome to Pastor Murray Savage, recently appointed, to the Ashburton pastorate. Mr J. Clelland, superintendent of the Bible School, presided, and explained that the welcome had been delayed on account of the Health Department restrictions imposed at Christmas.

The Rev. L. P. Bryan voiced words of welcome on behalf of the Ministers’ Association. There was room for Christian work by every church in Ashburton, lie said, and he was sure Pastor Savage would find many avenues for his activities on behalf of the Master, and his association with the Ministers’ Association would undoubtedly he blessed in the many demands for Christian work in this fine field. Mr A. J. Tyrrell-Raxter extended a very cordial welcome on behalf of the members of the Church of Christ, and assured Pastor Savage of the wholehearted co-operation of all branches of the Church’s auxiliaries. He was pleased to learn that Mrs Savage would shortly be among members, and share her husband’s joy in the work in Ashburton .

Pastor Savage expressed pleasure at the words of welcome expressed, particularly those from the representative of the Ministers’ Association. He said his chief ambition in his ministerial work would he to be friendly with everyone, without having afciy special friends, do all the good he could, and so in a humble way fulfil the true walk and work of a pastor. The program me of items submitted was:—-Songs, Miss M. J. Jeff, Miss J. Hoekings, Mr E. Williams; song in character, “My Mother Bids Me Bind My Hair,” Miss Margaret Sinclair; guitar solo, Mr Garfield Holmes; pianoforte solos, Miss Jeff and Miss F. Scott; recitations, Mrs S.
