OBITUARY.

MR S. W. S. (STRONG. (Fer Press Association), GREYMOUTH, This Day. Mr S. W. S. Strong, the recentlyappointed first engineer in charge of the Dominion Mining Schemes operations since amalgamation under the Labour Department, is dead, aged 37. Mr Strong, a son of Colonel W. J. Strong, of Dunedin, was educated at the Otago Boys High School and at the University of Otago School of Mines. He graduated in 1924. Later he was employed as patrolling geologist in the Taranaki oilfields, and had charge of the gold prospecting scheme under the Unemployment Board on the West Coast. He recently underwent an operation. He leaves a widow and two young children.

Sir Guy Standing died of a heart attack while chatting to an employee in the'offices of a motor agency at Hollywood. The employee asked Sir Guy how he felt and Sir Guy replied: “Excellent, I Have never felt better in mv life.” A second later he fell to the floor.

Friends traced Sir Guy’s death indirectly to- a bite of a black spider two years ago, during the filming of “The Lives of a Bengal Lancer.” Apparently he had recovered, hut recently he complained of pains in the legs. He refused medical care, and it is believed that the poison affected his heart.
