BULK ELECTRICITY.
UNIFORM RATE SUGGESTED, (Per Press Association.) WAIMATE, February 24. A suggestion to the Minister for Public Works (the Hon. R. Semple) that he might consider the early adoption of a uniform rate for the hulk supply of electricity throughout the Dominion was made by Mr S. I. Fitch, a member of the South Canterbury Electric Power Board', when Avelcoming Mr Semple for the hoard at a social in Mr Semple’s honour at Waimate on Tuesday evening. Mr Fitch said that country boards usually had to pay more for bulk electricity than was jiaid in the cities. He hoped Mr Semple would put the matter right. Mr Fitch also suggested that Mr Semple could do more than the hoards in carrying electric? tj T to consumers in the backblocks. “The board has been subsidising extensions into country districts, hut there are still many living in the backblocks who are not supplied,’’ he said. “There is still plenty of work for tho board in seeing them all served in time. We are sure the Minister is watching the position and can, if necessary, do more than boards to carry electricity into tlie country.”
