BOXING.

LOUIS DEFEATS BROWN. NEW YORK, February 18. Joe Louis knocked out Natie Brown in the fourth round of a scheduled tenround bout at Kansas City. There was a wild finish, similai to that in a wrestling bout, with the referee also floored 1 , while a crowd of 14,000 roared. Louis methodically sent rights and lefts to Brown’s face in the first forty seconds of the fourth round, until a hard right chopped Brown, who was dazed. While in a sitting position, in attempting to raise himgelf to his feet, Brown clutched the referee’s leg and pulled him down to the floor too. The referee arose and awarded the fight to Louis on a technical knockout, but the official timekeeper informed the referee that he had completed the count while the referee was down, so the decision was given to Louis with a knockout.

In the first round Louis left his corner and slowly circled round. A light left from Brown glanced Louis’s chin. The men clinched. Then Louis led with two lefts, but did no damage. Brown crossed with a right to the head and exchanged left jabs. Then Louis hooked a hard left to the body and Brown a right to the, ear. In the second Brown came out fast and carried the fight to Louis. There was a brief flurry of punches. Louis backed Brown to the ropes, but he fought clear. Louis began to connect with short lefts and rights to the chin. In the third round Louis stalked Brown, but was unable, to land an effective blow. They exchanged body blows at close quarters. Louis again connected with hard left and rights to the face as Brown came in. Brown landed a solid right to the body. In the fourth round the men met in the centre of the ring. Louis connected with hard rights and left to Brown’s face, which was becoming puffy. Brown went to the ropes, and

Louis landed a terrific right that ended the fight. Meanwhile the promoter (Joe Foley) announced that the, Chicago arrangements were completed for the LouisBraddock title bout, at Comiskey Park, instead of the Soldiers’ Field, on June 22, due to the 25 per cent, demands of the latter. Louis and Braddock are scheduled to appear during the day for a formal contract signing ceremony.
