BRITISH ALTITUDE ATTEMPT. (United Press Association —Copyright) LONDON, November 9. The Federation Aeronautique Internationale, in a bulletin discloses that the height record of Squadron-Leader F. 11. D. Swain does not rank as a world’s record. The federation recognises only four world’s records —for distance in a straight line, for distance in a closed circuit, for height and for speed. The height record is still credited to the Americans, Anderson and Stevens, who in 1935, ascended 72,394 feet in a balloon.
Squadron-Leader Swain, flying a special Bristol aeroplane, reached a height of 49,967 feet on September 29.
