STATE BUILDING.

NO FEES PAYABLE TO BOROUGH. (Per Press Association.) WELLINGTON, This Day. Concern at the Government’s decision not to pay fees for the erection of houses in the Hutt Valley under the Government’s building scheme was expressed at a meeting of the Borough Council. A letter from the Minister of Finance (the Hon. W. Nash) stated that although the Crou’n will comply with all reasonable local by-laws, the houses to be built by the Crown would be made under the supervision of competent architects and engineers and no additional work would be thrown upon the council staff. In these circumstances it would not be reasonable for the borough to expect any payments for permits or building fees. The Mayor said that the council was the custodian of the people’s money and the Government should not try to evade just dues. After discussion it was decided to appoint a committee of four to wait on the Prime Minister.
