The German motor-ship Isis foundered in the Atlantic. The only member of the crew of 40 rescued was a cabinboy, Roethke, aged 17, who was picked up by the Western Land. Ho was too exhausted to tell what happened. The liner Queen Mary was delayed by the search, which resulted in the discovery of one empty boat. She will not arrive until to-morrow. GALE RAGES FOR THREE DAYS. LONDON, November 9. The liner Queen Mary, when nearing Southampton, deviated from her course and is racing through a 90-miles-an-hour gale in response to an SOS from' the German motor-ship Isis, 4454 tons, 200 miles west of Land’s End. The liner Western Land reached the position of the Isis and reported that no trace had been found. She is continuing the search for lifeboats. The Isis sent a wireless message at 6.15: “Hatches stove-in; preparing to abandon ship. Forecastle head under water.”
The Queen Mary has been fighting mountainous seas for three days, during which Captain Peel had not left the bridge. SEVERE STORM IN CHANNEL. BOAT SERVICES DISORGANISED. (Received This Day, 11.30 a.m.) LONDON, November 9. Stormy weather on the coasts of Britain dining the week-end. culminated in a violent gale early this morning. During the night the Lizard light reported gusts of a velocity of 85 miles an hour. In the English Channel the wind, blowing at more than 70 miles an hour, with gusts reaching 100 miles an hour, disorganised the boat service.—British Official Wireless.
