STREET ACCIDENTS.
TAXIS RARELY CONCERNED. (Per Press Association.) AUCKLAND, Nov. 8. Out of 3029 motor accdjents reported to the police during the last three years, taxis were involved in only 248, stated Superintendent Till, giving evidence on behalf of the police before the Government Commission which is inquiring into the taxi business. In 45 cases the taxi drivers concerned had been prosecuted, 37 being convicted and eight acquitted. This meant that in 211 of the 248 accidents in which taxis were involved, taxi drivers were held to be free from blame. His impression was that taxis travelled fastest when returning to the stands after delivering fares. Nb case of a passenger being injured had been reported.
