PERSONAL.
Mr E. Buchanan is making satisfactory progress toward recovery after a second operation which he underwent in Christchurch last week.
A vote of sympathy in his indisposition was lost evening passed to Mr H. R. C. McElrea by tho Ashburton Borough Council, of which he is a member.
Mr W. McCallum, who lias been shift clerk at the Ashburton railway station for 15 years, has retired from the service, and will leave shortly to live at Nelson.
Miss E. Parson, of the Waipara School (North Canterbury), has been appointed head teacher at the Fairton School and will begin her duties on October 1.
Miss P. Melville, 8.A., of .Dunedin, took up a position to-day as relieving mistress on the staff of the Ashburton High School until the vacancy caused by the resignation of Miss V. Townsend is filled.
No election will he required at the annual meeting this evening for 20 committee members of the Ashburton Fanciers’ Society, the nominations being Messrs 0. H. Taylor, H. Hepburn, E. H. Scott, A. Clark, C. H. F. Maynard, G. H. Nicoll, A. L. Jones, W. K. Waters, D. Ede, C. Wellman, J. Glenie, Eric Johnston, A. A. Cox, L. Skilling, A. E. Tate, O. E. Morriss, T. W. Round, J. Hamilton, W.
