YOUTH FOR CHRIST.
THE CAMPAIGN IN ASHBURTON. FIRST MEETING THIS EVENING. Owing to one or two very generous contributions toward the expenses of the Youth for Christ campaign, it lias been decided that no collections will be taken up at the week-night meetings, though it may be necessary to ask for offerings at the Sunday rallies. The meetings begin this evening in St. Andrew’s Hall, when the speaker will be Pastor S. Stevens, of Christchurch. The Rev. R. S. Watson will occupy the chair. The singing throughout- the campaign will be led by a united choir, members from all the church choirs having promised to assist. Mr C. Bishop will be the song leader, and Mrs T. Pethick and Miss L. Lewis will act as pianistes. The Rev. Lawrence A. North, of Christchurch, will he the speaker for to-morrow evening. Mr North is the son of Dr. Charles North, of Dunedin, president of the Baptist Union of New Zealand. He studied for the ministry at the Baptist Theological College, Mt. Hobson, Auckland, of which his uncle, Dr. J. J. North, is principal. On completing his studies he became minister of the Mornington Baptist Church, Dunedin. He was then called to the pastorate of the Oxford Teriacc Church, Christchurch, which position ho still holds. His ability as a preacher and singer are known throughout the Dominion, and he has rendered valuable help in youth campaigns in other centres.
