SAVOLDI BEATS DUSEK. DUNEDIN, September 6. In a contest marked by more showmanship than straight wrestling, Joe Savoldi, lost 4lb, defeated Danny Dusek, 16st 41b, last night. Savoldi was casual at times, apparently to a point of carelessness, but was never actually
extended and always had the measure of his opponent. He secured the only fall of the bout in the sixth round with a body press following two drop-kicks. BOESCH AND KRUSE DRAW. (Per Press Association.) WESTPORT, Sept. 6. A wrestling bout here last evening,: between Paul Boesch and Bob Kruse ended in a draw, the former gaining a pin fall after a series of drop kicks in the sixth round, and Kruse evening in the eighth round, Boesch missing a drop kick and Kruse falling on him and applying a Boston crab. ATKINS AND MAKILL DRAW. SYDNEY, September 6. Wrestling at the Leichhardt Stadium to-night, Fred Atkins and Mike Magill drew with one fall each. SOUTH ISLAND AMATEUR TITLES. CANTERBURY WINS FIVE. DUNEDIN, September 6. The following are the results of the finals of the South Island amateur wrestling championships, which ended on Saturday:—
Fly-weight. S. G. Fagan (Canterbury) beat G. Murray (Otago) by two straight falls. Bantam-weight. H. Mauger (Canterbury) beat B. Marks (Otago) by one fall. Feather-weight. R. H. Mundy (Canterbury) beat A. Sands (Otago) on points. Light-weight. L. Small (Otago) beat L. Frampton (Southland) by two straight falls. Welter-weight. V. L. Thomas (Canterbury) beat H. G. Terry (Otago) by one straight fall. Middle-weight. H. S. Batchelor (Canterbury)beat It. Tourell (Otago) by two straight falls. Heavy-weight. L. Coughlan (Otago) beat A. Mogregor (Southland) on points.
