SOVIET ARMY.

MOST EXTENSIVE MANOEUVRES. DROPPING SOLDIERS BY PARACHUTE. (United Press Association—Copyright.) (Received This Day, 1.20 p.m.) MOSCOW, September 6. The first British military mission to visit the Soviet has arrived at Minsk to attend the most extensive manoeuvre ever conducted by the Red! Army. The mission consisted of Major-Gen-eral Wavcll (commander of the 2nd Division of the Aldershot Command), Lieut.-Colonel Giffard Martel (inventor of the one-man tank), Major E. C. Hayes (Imperial General Staff), and Wing-Commander C. G. Wigglesworth. One hundred thousand troops will take part in the manoeuvres, consisting of a mimic battle far Minsk, against an “invader,” probably including the dropping of many soldiers, armed with automatic rifles, by means of parachutes from troop-carriers. French and Czechoslovakian missions will also attend the manoeuvres.
