PERSONAL.
Miss M. Raven and Mr D. Foster have been temporarily appointed to the staff of the Allenton School and bega.n their duties to-day. The Rev. W. W. Avery, of Willow by, left this morning en route for Auckland, where he will act as judge at the Dominion .Daffodil and Bulb Show this week. Miss H. McCaughern has taken up duty at the Ashburton Borough School, replacing Mrs Erikson. Miss McCaughern was formerly on the staff of the Geraldine District Higli School. Misses M. A. Christie and B. H. Bell, of Timaru, have taken up positions on the staff of the Ashburton East School, replacing Misses Tayler and Litten, respectively.- Miss K. W. Hewson, cf Hilton, has been placed on the staff as an additional teacher. Miss Julie Werry, of New Zealand, was placed second in the operatic aria contest at the Sydney Eisteddfod. Seventy singers competed in the class, and Miss Werry was awarded only two marks less than the winner. The judge remarked that Miss Werry’s voice was the most promising in the section. Mr C. C. Werry, cf Ashburton, is a cousin of" the singer, who is also a niece ot Mrs M. P. Cooke, of Tinwald
