MISHAP TO EXPRESS
NO DEPARTMENTAL INQUIRY. (Per Press Association.) WELLINGTON, Sept. 1. There will he no departmental inquiry into the express train’s accident at Paraparaumu on Sunday. A departmental inquiry is usually held only when the cause of the accident in in doubt, or negligence >is suspected 1 . In the present case the ordinary operating procedure was followed by all concerned, the accident happening at a spot where trouble had not been experienced before with shifting country. Departmental officers, however, will make a complete investigation and submit full reports to the general manager, who will transmit these to the Minister' for Railways (the Hon. D. G. Sullivan). The line is now clear for normal traffic. The locomotive, which is lying on the side of the line, will probably be moved on Sunday.
