ROAD BOARD.
THE WAKANUI DISTRICT. RIVER PROTECTION SUPPORTED. The Wakanui Road Board held its monthly meeting yesterday, when there were present: Messrs F. Frampton (chairman), L. Hanrahan, J. W. Watson, and A. Gregory. Reports on works showed that the Board’s day men had been engaged during the last month in maintenance work at Hoatten’s, Rule’s, Bridge, Company’s, Milton, Cochrane’s, Christie’s, Newlands, and Chertsey roads. The water channel leading from Leddy’s corner to the river had also been cleaned. Members favoured the principle of the. Ashburton County River District Bill, which has been presented to Parliament, and agreed to support the Ashburton County Council in its efforts to have control of the rivers brought under the jurisdiction of one body for the erection of protective works to prevent the flooding of adjoining lands.
