PHYSICAL TRAINING.
ST. ANDREW’S CLUB DISPLAY. AN INTERESTING EXHIBITION. An interesting exhibition of physical training was given at the annual display of the St. Andrew’s Physical Training Club in the St. Andrew’s Hall last evening. There was an attendance of 350. The first lialf-liour was devoted to games, in which the spectators joined. An item depicting scenes in a Gipsy camp followed. The camp was set out in Gipsy style, and beautifully decorated. Eighteen players took part in the scene, which included singing, choruses and dialogues, and proved a great success. The main gymnastic display was next. Mat tumbling was the open item, followed by vaulting horse with pommels, crosswise and lengthwise, paraded bar work, pyramid drill, the special falling rose pyramid being encored. The display had to he condensed a great deal, and the full programme could not he given, on account of its length. The display was a marked improvement on that given last year. The keenness of members was shown by a. full attendance, and the interest of supporters reflected on the large attendance. The instructor (Mr A. Calder) presented a framed photograph of members to the Rev. and Mrs R. S. Watson, and spoke of the assistance they had always given the club. A fountain pen, presented by the leader'(Mr A. G. Horne) to the most improved first year member, was awarded to A. Porter. A shield donated by Mr T. B. Parish for the one over three relay was won by the East Ashburton team. Mi' Parish presented the shield to the winners (A. G. Horne, G. D. Calder, A. Porter, and C. S. Calder). A presentation was made by the members of the club to the instructor. After supper the evening concluded with “The Grand Old Duke of York.”
