MINERS STILL OUT
NO WORK PENDING CONFERENCE, REPLY TO GOVERNMENT MOVE. ABOUT 600 MEN AFFECTED. {Per Press Association.) WAIHI, This Day. Another mass meeting of local unions associated with the mining industry was held this morning to consider the further proposal of the Government, submitted by Messrs Mostyn (AssistantSecretary for Labour), Mclvor (Inspector of the Labour Department at Hamilton) and the Hon. E. Dye, M.L.C. The meeting was orderly* and passed a resolution, that the men do not return to work pending a conference between the council of unions and the Government representatives with a view to arranging a conference with Mr R, G. Mulligan (New Zealand director of the Martha Gold Mining Company (Waihi), Ltd) to bring about a settlement. The number of men rendered idle is about 600, including miners, carpenters, engineers and engine-drivers.
