ANTI-FASCISM

DEMONSTRATION IN MOSCOW. MOST INFLAMMATORY PLACARDS CONSCRIPTS CALLED UP. (United Press Association—Copyright.) (Received This Day, 10.45 a.m.) LONDON, Sept. 1. The Moscow correspondent of the “Daily Telegraph” says that what the newspaper “Pravda” described as the greatest demonstration of hatred of Fascism ever held, passed off with hundreds of thousands of young men and women, followed by 10,000 boys and girls, marching past Lenin’s Tomb. The whole city was beflagged, and placards were shown everywhere, bearing the slogans, “Fascism is preparing to attack ; let us hit her back,” “(Down with Bloody Fascism,” “Hands off the Spanish people.” Members of the procession carried many caricatures of Herr Hitler. One represented him as an ugly demon, spreading death throughout the world.

M. Stalin’s dictum, “Pigs aro warned to keep their snouts out of our garden,” was prominently displayed. Simultaneously it was announced that the 1914 class and half the 1915 class of conscripts, and all men exempted in 1935, had been called up, totalling 900,000 and bringing the army up to 1,600,000. This makes effective the decree of August 10, lowering the age for military service from 21 to 19.
