THE QUEEN MARY’S RECORD. FRENCH CONGRATULATIONS. (United Press Association—Copyrignt.) LONDON, September 1. By breaking the Normandie’s record the Queen Mary regained the blue riband; of the Atlantic for Britain after seven years. Up to that time it had been held by the Mauretania for 21 years. The final sprint was made in a slight fog which robbed holiday-makers on the land of a view of the Queen Mary as she passed Bishop Rock with a safe margin of three hours 31 minutes.— British Official Wireless. Unbounded enthusiasm prevailed on the Clydebank when news was received of the Queen Mary’s record passage. The whole of the Southampton waterfront was beflagged and crowds awaited the Queen Mary’s arrival from Cherbourg, where the passengers presented a bouquet to the commander (Sir Edgar Britten) in honour of the ship’s achievement. One of tho first congratulations to the Queen Mary came from the owners of the Normandie, whose chairman (M. '.Demalglaire) telegraphed as follows: “As friends and competitors we are glad to see the Queen Mary has accomplished what was expected of her. It will be interesting to see what will happen next.”
