WAIPIATA PATIENTS.

DECISIONS OF COMMITTEE. The Waipiata Sanatorium Committee met in Dunedifi last week. The chairman (Mr E. AlacDonald) presided, and Air AV. Bryant represented the Ashburton Hospital Board. The Acting-Medical Superintendent (Dr. W. AI. Alaclaurin) reported that 12 patients had been admitted in July, and 17 discharged, while 117 remained on August 1, with the exception of 12 whose condition at present was stationery, all were doing well or improving. The secretary (Air T. Pryde) reported that at data of meeting the Associated Boards had patients in the Institution as follows:—South Canterbury 20, Southland 66, Ashburton 10, AVaitaki 7, South Otago 6, Wallace 5, Vincent 3, Alaniototo 5, total 122. Of that number 37 had; been under treatment for more than twelve months. Since the previous meeting two patients had been discharged. He submitted a waiting list of nine patients, and as arrangements had been made for the immediate admission of two, there were actually seven males awaiting admission. Seven tenders were received for the erection of additional accommodation for male patients and additions to the Nurse’s Home, and the lowest, that of AV. AlcLellan Ltd., Dunedin, was accepted. The treasurer submitted a return of finances for four months ended July 31 compared with thei amounts estimated. The receipts showed a decrease, while there was a slight increase in the maintenance payments for the period, the treasurer explaining that so far as the maintenance fees were concerned the estimates had been prepared on the expectation that the committee would have had the extra accommodation available for male patients during the present financial year, which would have increased the committee’s revenue from the Associated Boards.
