BOXING.

THE GERALDINE ASSOCIATION. ASHBURTON MEN PRESENT. The newly-formed Geraldine Boxing Association held its first tournament on Tuesday evening. Several boxers from Ashburton took part, the results of their bouts being as follow: F. Hill drew with W. Tonks in the paper-weight class. Hill was the aggressor all the time, forcing the fight. Tonks, however, countered nicely with straight lefts in the third round. L. Lister, list 21b, beat Ken "Wright (Timaru), lOst 41b. Wright connected with several nice lefts to the chin in the first round, but Lister forced, the fight and followed up to win over the last two rounds.

D. Eddington (Timaru), 9st 121 b, beat A. Melrose, 9st 131 b. Eddington led with rights and lefts to the face, showing superior footwork throughout the bout. Melrose, who Avas less experienced, took his punishment gamely. G. Melrose, 9st 111 b, drew with J. O’Connell (Pleasant Point), 9st 101 b. The bout proved a very willing one, both boys toe to toe fighting. O’Connell forced the fighting in the first round, and, Melrose, Avho retaliated in the second, Avas unable to penetrate O’Connell’s guard. In the third round O’Connell had his opponent down for a count of six.

1L Cunningham, lOst, beat L. Morgan (Pleasant Point), 9st 13lb, by a. knock-out in the second round. Cunningham led’ with a nice left to the face and punished Morgan with straight lefts and rights to the head.. Morgan was taking severe punishment, and was sent down for a count of six. Coming up, he fought his way in, but Cunningham, with a swing to the jaw, secured a knock-out.

F. Hill, list, heat A. Jack, list, on points. Both fighters attacked hotly and a series of whirlwind blows were exchanged. They were evenly matched, but in the final round Hill had Jack groggy. F. Smith (Timaru), 9st 71b, heat R. Hunt, 9st 111 b, on a technical knockout. Smith, who led with right and left hooks to the head, followed up with straight lefts, and felled Hunt in the first round, but lie was saved by the gong. In the second round Smith

fought his way in to secure a technical knock-out.

Ri. Touks, 9st 21b, won on points from N. Jephson (Pleasant Point). Bst 121 b. Jephson, using superior footwork, appeared to have the advantage in the first round, but Tonks forced the pace in the final round, and secured his win on points. In a heavy-weight bout, T. Lister, list olb, beat J. B. Crodinor (Timaru), 12st 81b, on points. Both boys sparred carefully in the first round for an opening. Lister forced the pace over the final round, and won a popular decision by a small margin.
