DENTAL CLINIC
THE MOVEMENT AT SPRINGBURN COMMITTEE TO RAISE FUNDS. ESTABLISHMENT OF SUB-BASE. A meeting to further the establishment of a sub-base fox* dental treatment of school children was held in the Springburn school on Tuesday evening. Besides local parents, representatives attended from Ashburton Forks and Bushside. Mr L. G. McFarlane, who presided, explained the outcome of the meeting at Ashburton and said the present meeting was to try to devise ways and means to raise the local quota toward expense. It was asked if the idea of a travelling clinic was a dead letter. The Rev. A. A. C. Lion replied that while a travelling clinic seemed best for the country districts the cost would be £4OO, and the life short. It was alleged that Ashburton had thrown cold water on the idea of a travelling clinic. After discussion the following motion was carried: That this meeting, recognising the imperative need l of dental treatment for children, forms itself into a committee to obtain funds to get the best possible and immediate attention.
Mr McFarlane was appointed chairman and the Rev. A. A. C. Lion secretary.
It was decided to open a Post Office Savings Bank account under the name of “Springburn District Dental Clinic Committee.” The Mount ISomers district is to be invited to send delegates to the committee, and the secretary was instructed to get into touch with the other centres where it was proposed to establish sub-bases so that a united meeting could be held. It was decided to ask Mr A. L. Jones to arrange an Ashburton concert party to visit the district.
