THE WEATHER.
DULL AND COLD TO-DAY. The absence of a long period of sunshine in Ashburton for nearly a week was continued today. The sky was heavily overcast. The day was dull, and made cold by a south-westerly breeze. Light rain began to fall about 11 o’clock and continued steadily through the day. A frost of 1.2 degrees was recorded at the (Domain weather station this morning. The maximum temperature yesterday was 44.2 degrees and the inside minimum last night 33.6 degrees. Barometric pressure at 9 o’clock was 29.77. inches, a fall from 29.99 inches yesterday morning.
TO-DAY’S FORECAST, (Per Press Association,) WELLINGTON, This Day. The Government Meteorologist, at noon to-day, issued the following statement regarding the weather: General inference: Pressure is high to the south-west, but low over the Tasman Sea and northern New Zealand, a depression being centred over North Auckland and the central Tasman Sea respectively. The forecast for the east coast of the South Island from Blenheim to Oamaru is as follows: Freshening north-easterly winds. Weather cloudy to overcast, with mist or fog in places and scattered rain becoming more general, later mild. Seas moderate, but rising.
