INDUSTRY REVIVES
SHIPBUILDING IN BRITAIN.
BUSIEST QUARTER SINCE 1930.
NEARLY HALF WORLD’S TOTAL.

The highest quarterly total since December, 1930, of merchant vessels being constructed in Britain and Ireland, is recorded by Lloyds’ returns for the quarter ended March 31. The returns show that 842,361 tons are being built in the United Kingdom or 46.3 per cent of the worlds total, (excluding Russia, the figures for which are not available) of 1,820,114 tons, which is the highest since June, 1931. The British total exceeds the aggregate for the six leading countries abroad, among which Germany is leading with 317,053, followed by Japan 150,366. Of the world total 1,072,163 tons consist of motor ships.
