BOW RUDDER JAMMED. (Per Press Association.) WELLINGTON, April 13. On the Easter Monday excursion to the Marlborough Sounds, with 1400 trippers aboard, the Union Company’s Waliine met with a mishap to the bow rudder, which jammed to starboard as she was turning after leaving Picton for the homeward journey. As until the rudder was locked straight the steamer could not proceed, she lay in the stream off Picton for some three hours, eventually berthing at Wellington at 8.30 p.m., using the stern steering gear only. She sailed with 800 passengers for Lyttelton at 10 p.m., still with the bow rudder locked fast.
