THE TOTALISATOR RETURNS.

EASTER MEETING FIGURES. (Special to the “Guardian.”) CHRISTCHURCH, This Day. Totalisator figures for Easter race meetings throughout New Zealand, which are based for the most part on two days' racing, show a substantial increase over those for the corresponding meetings iast year. Of the 16 major days’ 'meetings held since Good Friday, 13 of which have been gallops and three trots, 14. haye revealed increases amounting to £66,624 10s.

The most remarkable increase was that of the Auckland Racing Club, whose figures for the two days showed an advance of £27,485. The increase on Saturday was oyer £BIOO, but yesterday’s total of £53,832 was £19,357 in excess of the turnover on Easter Monday last year. The first day of the Canterbury Jockey Club’s Easter meeting, held at Riccarton yesterday, showed an increase of £3830 10s.

'Hie Feilding meeting, like that at Auckland, showed a remarkable swelling in totalisator investments, the gain for the meeting being one-third of last year’s total. The investments for the two days totalled £48,134, an advance of £12,373 on last year. Here, again, the greater increase was shown yesterday. showing an excess over last Easter Monday of £7238. The Wairarapa Racing Club was one of the few that showed a falling-off. The total for the meeting was £24,354, a decrease of £259. A decrease of £435 occurred on Saturday, and though yesterday's figures showed an on Easter Monday last year, the gain was not sufficient to bring the total for the meeting up to last year’s figures. The single-day meeting of the Waifiukurau Jockey Club yesterday showed an increase o £3126 10s, with its total of £7803 10«. The two meetings held at Greymouth during Easter, the Greymouth Jockey Club’s meeting on Saturday, and thq Kumara Racing Club’s fixtiue yestei day, both showed increased investments. in the former case the increase was £1226, and the Kumara club showed an advance of £4OB. Tlie single-day meeting of the Tuapeka Jockey Uul> was in the minority, showing a decrease, there being a falling-ofi.of betting interest amounting to £471. The figures for trotting meetings arc swelled considerably by the increase in investments shown by the New Zealand Metropolitan Trotting Club’s meeting on Saturday.
