LATE COMMERCIAL
TINWALD EWE FAIR. INCREASED YARDING FORWARD. EASING TENDENCY IN PRICES. An easing tendency in prices was reflected when the Tinwald ewe fair opened this morning. Young sheep later sold at rates equal to those of recent sales, but an easing tendency in older sheep remained. It was expected that prices might rise when the sale of two-tooth sheep was commenced, later. The yarding was estimated at about 35,000 sheep, an increase of 10,000 on the yarding last year, when a long dry spell of weather had an unfavourable effect on the entry. With abundance of feed this year, most lines were in good condition. Nearly all the sheep were fine-woolled. a large proportion being two-tuoths. There was a large attendance of buyers, and for any line of outstanding quality bidding was fairly keen, but several lots were passed. A particularly line line of 56 twotooth half-breds was forwarded by. W. Giddings (Ealing) and sold at 345. Up to the time the “Guardian” went to press this price topped the sale. Two other lines of two-tooths brought 30s 6d and! 30s, including 88 sold for D. Morrow (Alford Forest). Prominent among station sheep were 282 from the Glenlea Station (Central Otago). These were four-year sheep, 120 of which sold at 28s 3d and the balance at 27s 6d.
